Concrete by Elke Kramer

It’s no secret that Elke Kramer has long been one of my favourite Australian jewellery designers. I own at least one design from each of her standout collections. I’m often gifted with her designs, its become common knowledge that her pieces are a safe bet to gift to me!

This is one of my favourite pieces from her recent Second Nature collection which gives a nod to the intricate and very beautiful floral shapes that are seen when fungus is put under a microscope.

Each collection of unique pieces really is art. The creative process can only be compared to the time and dedication that goes into creating a presentation at any contemporary art museum, here in Sydney Australia; it’s the MCA (a.k.a Museum of contemporary art).

This collection named Concrete is one of her best yet. The video that complements her latest installment of jewellery is very new-age oriental. Maybe it’s the chimes, the headpiece that adorns the key female, the black oriental ninja’esque cult that circles around her, or perhaps it’s a strong sense of old world rituals that is best seen in Asian cultures?

This short film also has strong links to cult classic horror film Rosemary’s Baby (purely my own observation), filmed in 1968 by Roman Polanski and set in New York.

Here is a clip for comparison purposes:

There is a strong underlining motif of ritual, seduction, hypnotism and even sorcery.

According to Elke Kramer the plot to her short film Concrete is:

“A woman summons the mystical powers of the universe to manifest a man, love. Once bound by love, she realizes its confines and the pleasure within this.”

Here are my favourite pieces from this collection. They really are breath taking! It was very hard to pick just a few key pieces that I loved the most. Click here to check them all out, because they are very unique, you’re bound to love some more than others purely due to personal preference.

Meringue rings

When two worlds, distinctly different, but on the same level of deliciousness merge together ( I’m talking jewellery and deserts) you are left with great results! These meringue rings are so cute! When I first spotted them I actually thought they were edible rings, much like the candy necklaces you could buy at the school canteen, but no! These bad boys are made with industrial strength silicone meaning they will last well beyond your initial cravings for something sweet!

The rings that are crafted by German Designer Tanja Hartmann, who is known for breaching tradition and in doing so taking out the title for 'Modern jewelry collection – winner in 2010' has won her accolades due to unique and ingenious designs. Her rings look so real that you immediately want to have a nibble! Luckily they are made out of silicone and not sugar and egg whites!
