Miranda Kerr's Off-Duty Fashion Faux Pas During Paris Fashion Week

I once thought it was impossible for Miranda Kerr to look bad. Whether she was heading out with little Flynn to grab some groceries in a well-put-together street styling ensemble, or attending an A-list party is head-to-toe Givenchy – she always looked wow.

This is why I’m shocked. For the first time ever I actually don't want to own this outfit. Cast your eyes below...

This mumsy drop-waist frock (can you believe it’s from Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2014 collection?) has left Miranda with no shape! To make matters worse she’s wearing monochrome corporate flats (Miu Miu) that would have been better paired with a chic tweed Chanel jacket, her skinny black jeans and that cute fedora she wears from time to time. 

The black boxy tote (Louis Vuitton as well) doesn’t work with the attempted feel of this dress either – that being low-key and relaxed.

Ah Miranda. Lucky every day presents us with a new opportunity to turn over a fresh, more fashionable leaf.

5 winter trench coats with Miranda Kerr

I've always considered Miranda Kerr's after hours style more fashion forward then the premeditated photo shoots she's lent her face to for numerous magazine titles and countless years.

But if I was to point out just one particular look that I love of hers, it's got to be the way she can rock a trench. Because she's often jet setting across the globe, and dressing for all climates, she's been photographed in some of the most cutting-edge yet totally wearable trenches this year.

Above are five of her best trench looks. Now let's follow suit.

1. Go monochromatic - Stick to basic black and white for a sophisticated result. Pair black boots, jeans and tee with a monochromatic trench in either a jacquard, check or quilted textile.
2. A trench is an outfit in itself - Have a knee-length trench with a low collared neckline hanging in your closet? Can you cinch yours with a belt? Make like Miranda and wear yours like a architectural dress with beige pumps.
3. Show a smidgen of skin - Can thigh-high boots layered with a black trench ever be beaten in the style stakes? I think not! The sex appeal that oozes from this ensemble is universal. Ask any man...
4. Get more wear out of your summer shorts - Those little leather shorts you loved all summer long can now have their fashionable lifespan extended further. Pair yours with sheer stockings, boots (Isabel Marant optional!) and a neutral toned trench like this grey woolen option.
5. The cotton office trench is given a fresh breath of weekend air - Oh hey Agent 99! Your khaki trench can now take a stroll down a weekend walkway with you. Just follow the simple recipe. Leopard print flats + distressed denim + breton stripe tee + black accessories = instant chic.

I think we’re turning Japanese, I really think so...

Vogue UK captured the mood of this new trend perfectly.

East meets West - it’s a common relationship we continually reference in our every day macro-worlds. It seems that everything from the food we eat (mi goreng noodles anyone?) to the activities that are now classified tres cool (pilates and yoga), to our home deco options, think sphere paper light shades (I know I have one). 

They have all been referenced from oriental cultures, more so now than ever before.

Fashion Weeks over the last two years have also seen catwalks awash with this culturally dominant print. Everything from lush kimonos to eclectic prints to even Japanese clogs thanks to Prada.

Slowly this trend has trickled into the main stream as well, and I love it. Most of the shapes that designers are offering up are streamlined, the colours are eye catching and the mood to the collections is a little more fun. 

Fashionistas are also taking to this new mode of fashion well. Taylor Tomassi Hill has been seen fluttering from one runway show to the next in this silky oriental print, while actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead and model Miranda Kerr were seen in the same frock but of opposing colours by Erdem.

 The flattering mid-length makes it a great wardrobe staple to pull out before any polished event.

Miranda Kerr for Rag and Bone Jeans

Miranda Kerr for Rag & Bone's latest DIY campaign

These candid shots of home grown talent, Miranda Kerr, were taken by fellow Victoria Secret model Lily Aldridge in New York and some were taken by her husband Orlando in New Zealand.

They make for a refreshing take on a designer campaign, with Kerr seeming to actually be in her element enjoying her limelight (a glimmer of 'genuine happiness' which has been lacking in recent fashion editorials), there is also a virginal element to these photos, as if Kerr, who is normally harassed by photographers, and in her situation where studios have primarily become her 24/7 habitat, are all but a distant memory.

These shots look like they are taken straight from Lily's personal phone memory, and now they are ours.
