Nichalas Kirkwood heels.
Nicholas Kirkwood, one of the most forward- thinking designers of the moment has just been nominated for a British Fashion Award for his collaboration with the New York-based Keith Haring Foundation.
Kirkwood takes direct reference from late New York City artist and activist Keith Haring’s work by incorporating the iconic artists distinctive ‘scribbles’ and illustrations on his own sky-high heels. Haring being well known for artworks responded to the New York City street culture of the 1980s has now had his work projected by Kirkwood into the present-day.
This creative collaboration is no surprise to fashion insiders as Kirkwood is no stranger to joining forces with idolised artists, he has previously teamed up with Erdem and Rodarte.
This time however Nicholas Kirkwood has designed twelve pairs of highly original and extravagant shoes to pay respect to the late artist, which include pumps, boots and open-toe sandals. All of Kirkwood’s designs are embellished with some of Haring’s well-known illustrations and are either printed onto the shos material or add a sculptural element.
This array of shoes will be available from February 2011 in Nicholas Kirkwood stores.
